Do you to know this prayer by heart: “Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls.”
One of the Marks of Advent is prayer. When we make prayers of supplication and ask for graces, we wait for the gift to be granted. Similarly, Advent is a period of prayerful waiting.
This Advent I want to check that all of the members of my parish know their basic prayers. Please take a prayer sheet home with you today (they are located in the pews) and ensure that everyone in your family knows them. The basic prayers that your pastors wants you to have memorized are the Our Fa- ther, the Hail Mary, the Glory Be, the Act of Contri- tion, and the Prayer of Saint Michael the Archangel.
As a special way to live our prayerfulness to- gether, we will be praying the Prayer of Saint Michael the Archangel together. After daily Mass, we will recite the prayer on behalf of the entire parish. Let’s make prayer a part of your Advent journey.
