Religious Education

"The greatest gift we can pass on to the next generation is the treasure of our Catholic Faith."
Director of Faith Formation, Deacon John Portillo

Parents are the primary educators of their children in the ways of the faith. The purpose of the Sts. Peter and Paul Religious Education Program is to assist parents in the faith formation of their children by offering a comprehensive quality program where children can experience and learn the importance of their gift of faith, and to express that faith in daily life. Programs offered at Saints Peter and Paul Parish are as follows:

The Office of Religious Education
seeks individuals to join its core team in the capacity of catechists and assistant catechists each year. Help is also needed in the areas of planning, retreat preparation, help with logistics, and administrative tasks. For the protection of our children, all teachers/volunteers working directly with children will be screened for suitability to work with minors according to Archdiocesan guidelines.

K-8 (Sunday School)

A series of classes designed to provide basic instruction in the faith for students not attending Catholic school. Based on the Catechism of the Catholic church and a curriculum approved by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops, the students are exposed to the tenets of faith as a foundation for their moral and social lives.

Classes meet in the school on Sundays from 10:10 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. Parents are asked to attend the 9:00 a.m. Mass with their children.

Sts. Peter and Paul school students who are registered in the 2nd grade program will receive instruction and preparation for the Sacraments of First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Eucharist (Communion) as part of the second grade Religious Education Curriculum.

RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation of Children) and RCIT (Rite of Christian Initiation of Teens)

A series of classes designed to provide sacramental training for children and teens in the third grade and higher who have not received Baptism, First Confession, or First Eucharist. Classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in Big Mac.

Please note: Any student third grade or above who has not yet made First Reconciliation or First Eucharist must enroll in the RCIC program. Sacramental preparation is only provided for the second grade on Sundays

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

The RCIA is a process for adults interested in learning about and/or becoming members of the Roman Catholic Church. This is a time for inquiry and introduction to the message of the Gospel. It is an opportunity for the beginnings of Faith. The program is open to the non-baptized, and non-Catholics who are already baptized, and seek admission into the Catholic Church. RCIA is a community of faith journey that leads to a transformation of mind and spirit. Guided by the Gospel and Faith community at large, newcomers can find their place in the family of believers. Participants will be brought into the church during the Easter Vigil in Holy Week.

Adult Confirmation classes are for those practicing Catholics 18 years of age or older. Adults must have already received the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Eucharist (Communion). Four preparation classes will be required. Please bring a copy of your Baptism and First Communion certificates to the registration or first class.

Adult Confirmation: They will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on the same day as the Sts. Peter and Paul School students. The date for Confirmation will depend on the Archbishop's schedule.

Adult Faith Formation

This is a series of presentations designed to update Catholics on the Faith, Scripture, contemporary issues, Catechism of the Catholic Church, etc.
